Home?

Got the chance to work with some formerly homeless people in a poetry workshop last week and would like to share these two little gems;

The Tower

Tall dark tower in the light of the fading hour

Tall dark tower such a hunting power

Tall dark tower a bell tower

Tall dark tower under you I cower

Tall dark tower shelter in rain shower

Nan’s House

Creeping though the house

Just like a little mouse

Don’t let her catch you James

This is no place for silly games

Watch out for her stick

It’s quick with a whip and a flick

No you don’t mess about

Or Nan will start to shout

Then mom will have lots to say

And there will be hell to pay

Sit still James and drink you juice

No more squabbling we’ll call a truce

I took these poems to the WEA art group this week and our lovely learners did their own images of home again i just picked out two to show you but they were all brilliant

Diversity

What is diversity?

The difference between you and me

The difference between he or she

The avoidance of perversity

What is diversity?

More than black or white

More than wrong or right

More struggling against adversity

We want diversity

We want to be free

We want a committee

We all agree

Diversity in college goes hand in hand with knowledge.

Education

Off to get an education

A college level vocation

Waiting at the bus station

Overflowing with anticipation

It’s 32 week duration

Looking forward to graduation

What if there’s been a cancellation?

What if there’s a problem with the application?

Have a done enough preparation?

Enough of my active imagination

I’ll check with student information

They can give me explanation, mediation without hesitation

And soon I be in a new occupation

All thanks to my college education.

Evening At Sea

Come set sail with me in my green boat

As our evening turns blue and we just float,

Come let us drift to the remote.

Don’t worry about the stormy sky

All will fade as time goes by

I know how life can make us cry

So come set sail with me and we can all drift free.
